Is Target Open on Thanksgiving? Get All the Details About the Store's 2020 Hours

We can all agree that Thanksgiving is going to be very different this year due to the ongoing health crisis. While we’re still months out from the holiday festivities, big-box retailers like Target are starting to share updates on how they’ll keep our homes full, fed, and happy during the holiday season.
In a recent blog post on the company’s website, Target confirmed that it will not be open on Thanksgiving in 2020. In previous years, most Target stores opened at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving with door-busting deals to kickoff Black Friday shopping. “This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we’re continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can,” they wrote. As of right now, Target has not confirmed store hours for the week of Thanksgiving, including Black Friday.

The specifics about Black Friday shopping at Target remain up in the air, but here’s some goods news: The company will be “stretching out the savings” all season long. “Historically, deal hunting and holiday shopping can mean crowded events, and this isn’t a year for crowds,” Target wrote. “Starting in October and continuing throughout the season, you’ll find Target’s lowest prices of the year on items in stores and online, giving you the flexibility to get the gifts you want — when and how you want — at the Target value you love.”
Target joins a growing list of major retailers who are opting to close their doors on Thanksgiving.
Walmart and Sam’s Club led the way, announcing that they will keep their stores closed on Thanksgiving in hopes to give their store associates quality time at home after a “trying year.” Per a press release, Walmart CEO John Furner said: “Our best ideas come from our associates, and this year we have decided to close our stores on Thanksgiving Day – November 26. We know it’s been a trying year, and you’ve stepped up. We want you to enjoy the day at home with your loved ones.”
Dick’s Sporting Goods echoed similar sentiments in a press release: “We are so thankful to our teammates for their hard work and dedication. They have navigated this year with strength, commitment and care for each other and for our customers. We will continue to do all we can to support them and show our gratitude.”
