Not to alarm you, but Halloween is next week. If you still haven’t figured out what you’re going to dress up as for Halloween, I have a cheap and easy hack that will transform any outfit into a spooky and realistic costume: fake blood.
Instead of spending tons of cash on a look you’ll only wear once, some fake blood is all you need to take your DIY Halloween costume to the next level. There are endless possibilities: dribble it on some gauze wrap as a mummy, splash it on a white button-down or lab coat as a zombie doctor, run some under your nose as Stranger Things’ Eleven, splatter it on a slip dress as Carrie White from Carrie … I could go on and on!
There are tons of fake blood products available on Amazon, but the best-reviewed option by far is from Mehron, a stage makeup brand. Its squirt blood is versatile, easy to use and even washes out of clothes, according to reviewers. And it’s less than $10 on Amazon with two-day shipping for Prime members, perfect for any last-minute Halloween plans.
“This stuff works like a charm. Other fake ‘squirt’ bloods out there are so runny and unrealistic looking but this stuff looks awesome,” said one five-star reviewer. “I work with nurses and they said it looked real, you can’t get a higher compliment than that on fake blood.” raved another.
The brand also makes spray-on blood splatter for a quicker application and coagulated blood gel for a more precise look. You can even combine different fake blood consistencies to create realistic-looking wounds and gashes.
Personally, my go-to easy costume is a vampire: simply throw on some dark and red clothes, drip a little bit of fake blood onto your neck and the corners of your mouth, and voila. I’ve been using the same tube of fake blood for five years to achieve this vampire look, and it’s always a hit. Bonus points if you add some stick-on fangs or press-on nails for some extra flair.
Below, I’ve rounded up a few top-rated fake blood products on Amazon for all your last-minute Halloween costume needs.
