Easter has arrived — although it’s slightly different this year. While the holiday usually brings us together with friends and family for dinners and egg hunts galore, in 2020, almost everyone in the world will spend it alone or with their immediate family only. But just because we’re physically apart doesn’t mean we can’t still connect with our communities — and that includes our religious ones too.

In these unprecedented times, churches near and far have been live-streaming masses, music, and prayers in order to help their congregants stay connected to God and to each other. This Easter Sunday, visit your local church’s website, Facebook, or YouTube channel to see if they’re hosting a livestream mass. Or, if you prefer, attend a virtual Easter Sunday mass at one of these world-famous churches or television options. You can connect any of these livestreams to your TV with an HDMI cable or AirPlay.

How to livestream Easter Sunday mass at the Vatican:

Most years, the pope hosts an open-air Easter Sunday mass in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican in Rome — and typically, thousands of people attend. Obviously, that’s not the case this year, but you can still celebrate with Pope Francis. Mass begins at 11 a.m. CEST (5 a.m. ET) and will be live-streamed on the Vatican’s website. The entire celebration will take place inside St. Peter’s Basilica.

In his Palm Sunday mass on April 5, Pope Francis said, “The tragedy we are experiencing summons us to take seriously the things that are serious and not to be caught up in those that matter less; to rediscover that life is of no use if not used to serve others. May we reach out to those who are suffering and those most in need. May we not be concerned about what we lack, but what good we can do for others.”

How to watch Easter mass on TV:

One of the most popular ways to stream mass online is with Catholic TV. This service offers a variety of live and pre-recorded masses. Check out their daily schedule so you can choose the Easter Sunday mass that best fits your preferences and schedule. Streaming Churches Online and Christian World Media offer similar services.
